Chinese Immigration Psychological Evaluations in Mandarin and Taiwanese

Quick answer
Cheryl conducts evaluations directly in English, Mandarin, and Taiwanese. Clients can describe memories, family relationships, and emotional experiences in the language that feels most natural, while the final report is prepared in English.
You speak Mandarin or Taiwanese, and you need an immigration psychological evaluation. This article explains how I do the evaluation in your language and why that matters. The case itself is heavy. On top of that is the fear of not being fully understood.
Why some clients prefer Mandarin or Taiwanese even if they speak English
Many Chinese-American clients use English at work and in daily life without trouble. But for pain, family history, shame, grief, or fear, the language that feels most exact and most honest is often a different one. It is the language of childhood, family, and memory.
That is common. Feelings live in the mother tongue in ways that are hard to copy in a second language. Someone describing a hard experience in English may feel that something is missing, that they are giving the outline without the feeling. That gap matters in an evaluation, where detail and feeling shape the report.
Some things are hard to explain in English, not because your English is weak, but because the Chinese words carry more. That is worth paying attention to. An evaluation in Mandarin or Taiwanese may let you say it fully.
What Chinese immigration evaluations can document
The evaluation records the emotional reality of your situation, whatever the case type. For Chinese-speaking clients, common themes include:
Anxiety, depression, or emotional exhaustion connected to the immigration situation
Family separation stress, including impact on children, parents, or spouses
Trauma history that connects to the case: domestic violence, persecution, abuse
Family and cultural pressure that shaped how you responded
Caregiving in the family and what removal would break
Fear of returning to another country, including specific safety concerns
Effects on daily life, work, parenting, and relationships
Culture matters in these evaluations. Family honor, duty, shame, and the pressure to endure without complaint are real forces in many Chinese and Taiwanese families. I know this from my own life, not only from books. That lets me record it accurately.
Evaluations directly in Mandarin and Taiwanese
I do evaluations directly in English, Mandarin (普通話), and Taiwanese (台語). No interpreter is needed if you prefer Mandarin or Taiwanese. I do the whole evaluation in your language myself.
This matters if your family history, immigration story, or feelings are held most accurately in Chinese. You do not have to translate yourself. There is no need to explain cultural context an outsider might miss. The evaluation can be as direct and complete as your story deserves.
What the process looks like
The evaluation follows the same steps as any other. There is an interview, a review of your background, mental health screening, and a detailed written report for your attorney. The report is written in English. It is written for your case type, including hardship, asylum, VAWA, U visa, T visa, cancellation of removal, or related matters.
I do evaluations by secure video where I am allowed to practice. A free call is available before scheduling, in Mandarin, Taiwanese, or English. For the Chinese-language service page, see 移民心理評估服務頁面.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. I do evaluations myself in Mandarin (普通話), Taiwanese (台語), and English, so no interpreter is needed. When you speak in your own language, I understand the cultural and family context directly. That helps the report capture your experience fully.
The evaluation can be entirely in Mandarin or Taiwanese, but the report is written in English so your attorney can review and file it. It is written for your case type, including I-601 and I-601A hardship waivers, VAWA, U visa, T visa, asylum, and cancellation of removal.
Current pricing is in the FAQ on the main immigration page. I use secure video where I am allowed to serve your location. You do not need a lawyer to contact me, and I can work with your lawyer if you have one.
